Peruvian strike blocks tourist trail

Roads and a railway to the tourist resort of Machu Picchu in Peru has been cut off by farmers.

The farmers have launched a blockade to protest against a free trade agreement with the United States.

The protesters want the Peruvian government to halt cost of living increases which they claim are being brought on by subsidised US agricultural products.

Peru's largest union federation will begin a national strike on Wednesday.
