New greenhouse rules for airlines
UAE News.Net Wednesday 9th July, 2008
CO2 emissions caused by air travel should be cut from 2012.
As of this date, all airlines in Europe will have to comply with a new European emission trade system, which will require them to buy CO2 credits.
An overwhelming majority of members in the European Parliament voted in favour of the limits, but the airline sector is unhappy with a decision which they say will cost airlines 3-and-a-half billion euros in the first year alone.
The decision still has to be ratified by individual EU governments.
