DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 20 (PIA) -- The number of Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs) has increased to 375 as 16 additional close contacts of five COVID-19 positive patients were quarantined and subject to swab RT-PCR tests.

Of the 16 close contacts, 13 were exposed to NegOrCov 222 and NegOrCov 223; three were exposed to NegOrCov 204, NegOrCov 201, NegOrCov 209 and NegOrCov 210.

City Health Officer Dr. Maria Sara Talla also said that only one PUM was released yesterday after he completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine in the different isolation facilities without showing any signs and symptoms of ILI (influenza like illness).

Aside from the 16 close contacts of Covid 19 patients, four OFWs from Japan and Dubai were also quarantined beginning yesterday in compliance to the local health protocols.

However, the City's Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases reported that none of the 375 PUMs seen and examined by the health workers manifested symptoms of ILI.

Of the 375 PUMS, 132 are in designated hotel facilities; 81 are in the community isolation center and 162 are in the barangay isolation facilities.

Meanwhile, personnel of the City Health Office were deployed in the different barangays to conduct and gather swab samples of close contacts of COVID positive patients.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo lauded the health workers and other frontliners for their diligence and fortitude in performing their tasks despite the risks to ensure that those who are possible carriers of the virus will be isolated and given medical intervention.

Dr. Talla said that the swab samples gathered will be sent for RT-PCR testing in Cebu.

Until the negative results are received or they complete the quarantine period without ILI, none of them will be allowed to leave their homes including the members of their families.

Food packs and other medicine have been provided to the quarantined families.

Mayor Remollo also expressed gratitude to the barangay officials and law enforcement agencies for imposing the lockdown and the cooperation of the affected families. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from CPIO Dems Demecillo)
